Americans for Democratic Action fights for equality and economic security for all by advocating for civil rights and liberties, social and economic justice, sensible foreign policy, and sustainable environmental policy. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter works in the Philadelphia metropolitan area to educate the public, organize and unite progressives, and support candidates who share this vision.
ADA has a rich history and robust experience fighting for progressive causes. With a Republican majority in Harrisburg and Washington, D.C., and a turbulent political climate, our work is far from finished. We will continue to push the progressive agenda forward.
Founded in 1947, ADA began as a voice for the continuance of New Deal policies. Its membership included Eleanor Roosevelt, Walter Reuther, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr, and other liberal luminaries. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter has been instrumental in political reform and progressive advocacy in Philadelphia since its inception.
To accomplish our goals and keep its almost 1000 members informed about liberal candidates and issues, we meet candidates for the purpose of informing our membership of their positions. In addition, we hold public forums, meetings, and discussions to bring progressive issues and candidates to the attention of a wider audience.
