NOW chapters focus on six priority issues including reproductive rights, ending sex discrimination/constitutional equality, promoting diversity and ending racism, economic justice, stopping violence against women, and LGBTQIA rights. Our chapter welcomes new members to help fight for women’s rights on the local and national level. Brooklyn and Queens Chapter of the National Organization for Women dedicated to serving women's issues. www.brooklynqueensnow.org Some of the current issues / actions the chapter is working on: Equal Pay: Do you get paid the same wages as your male counterpart? Reproductive Choice: Can you obtain birth control at your local pharmacy? Some women can't because of the laws that were recently changed. Gay and Lesbian Rights: Would you like to help stop laws like Proposition 8 from being passed in other states around the country? Fight the right-wing backlash against women’s progress. Lobby elected officials, here and in Albany, on behalf of women’s rights, such as requiring over-the-counter status for Emergency Contraception Monitor the courts’ treatment of women in matrimonial, criminal and mental-health cases We established our Political Action Committee in 2001 to evaluate and educate candidates seeking our endorsements Fight the right-wing backlash against women’s progress Research and publicize the records of candidates for school boards and for city, state and federal offices Brooklyn-Queens NOW is a grass roots, civil rights organization dedicated to women's rights issues and full social, political and economic EQUALITY.
