Meetings: Wednesdays at 8:00 pm in Althouse 201 The Dickinson College Democrats were founded in 2002 to bring the political process to the students, faculty and staff of Dickinson College and to the Carlisle community. DCD is actively involved in local elections in Central Pennsylvania, statewide campaigns, and at the national level. We work closely with the Cumberland County Democratic Party, Students for Barack Obama, and College Democrats of America. Since our founding we have been a constant presence on campus seeking to promote public service and spark political debate. In the past 9 years, we have helped establish 'Rush the Vote' Dickinson Voter Registration Drive; debated and organized with the College Republicans; interned with notable campaigns; hosted a political conference with 13 universities in attendance; hosted John Kerry, Mark Alexander, former Governor Ed Rendell, and President Bill Clinton; attended off campus events with John Edwards, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton; and traveled to Washington, DC. Please come to our next meeting to find out how you can get involved. Our primary goal is to enhance political participation on campus by facilitating the involvement of Dickinsonians in the invigorating process of political action. Also crucial, we work to further the goals of the Democratic Party and the ideals for which it stands, including livable wages, equal access for all to a decent education, access to liveable health care, and also to voting booths. These goals are reached in the form of actively recruiting voters, knocking on the doors of prospective voters, and other effective forms of direct electoral participation.
