Vision: JMC envisions a world where Muslims around the world are treated with dignity and respect while being afforded equal access to human and civil rights. The JMC’s focus on the DMV will include: Community solutions: Collaborating with and supporting local Muslim communities in combating structural and institutional Islamophobia by creating mechanisms of community and legal support Skills-building and empowerment: Provide support for both issue-focused and skill-based trainings to Muslim and allied communities on topics including but not limited to: bystander intervention training, Know Your Rights, Islamophobia 101, digital security and direct action support Allies and accomplices: Coordinating efforts across allied organizations with non-Muslim membership bases to effectively serve the needs of Muslims in the area Values: As a DC-metro area based coalition, we are committed to prioritizing the needs of Muslim residents in the area We recognize the limitations to using the state as an answer to our problems and strive to create self-empowered solutions for Muslim communities to not just survive, but thrive We are firmly anti-war, anti-racist and anti-patriarchal in our approach and in our partnerships We believe that all these forms of violence, such as capitalism, colonialism, poverty, racism, patriarchy, ableism, caste-based violence, Islamophobia, homophobia, and transphobia, create a world where the status-quo dehumanizes us as Muslims We recognize that the United States is built upon anti-blackness, settler colonial violence against indigenous communities, capitalism, and imperialism and are committed to a practice of self-awareness within our coalition We stand in solidarity with the global resistance and liberation efforts of oppressed peoples around the world. Diversity and Inclusion: The JMC welcomes participation from all individuals regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, etc. and seeks to create an inclusive space where these differences in identity are valued and respected.
