Progressive Democrats of Sussex County Believe All citizens are entitled to equal rights and equal treatment under the law and that no one shall be denied these rights because of gender, race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or religion. The separation of Church and State is an imperative established by the Constitution, and that the current attempts of elected officials to promote a Christian agenda is a violation of the Constitution. Pre-emptive war is wrong and that this country should seek solutions to international threats through diplomatic channels and the United Nations. Every citizen is entitled to quality health care and that universal-single-payer health care will save lives and money and should be a priority for our nation. Fair wages improve the quality of life and stimulate the economy. The environment is a trust and that we are responsible for preserving it for future generations. Legislative, Executive and Judicial powers should be separate, and the erosion of these separations of power is a threat to our Constitution and the Peoples’ liberty. Above all, we believe, in the Constitution of the United States of America and in the right of the People to liberty, security, and opportunity. Our Objectives Recruit and support Progressive Democratic candidates at the County and State level. Support progressive causes and work with other organizations to support a Delaware Progressive Coalition. Make progressive voices heard in the Delaware Democratic Party and the Sussex County Democratic Party Our Policies Encourage concrete, practical action in preference to discussion and debate. Strengthen the Democratic Party, not through criticism, which we see as largely ineffective, but through continuous replacement of conservative Democrats with more progressive Democrats. Work with other organizations to support a Delaware Progressive Coalition. There are three critical ingredients to democratic renewal and progressive change in America: good public policy, grassroots organizing and electoral politics. Senator Paul Wellstone (1944- 2002)
