TransSpace at Virginia Tech is a space for anyone in the VT, Blacksburg, and/or NRV communities who identifies as non-cisgender (transgender, non-binary, etc.), gender nonconforming, and/or gender questioning, or otherwise part of the trans community. TransSpace at Virginia Tech is a space for anyone in the Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, and/or New River Valley communities/areas who identifies as non-cisgender (transgender, non-binary, etc.), gender nonconforming, and/or gender questioning, or otherwise part of the trans community. As a Registered Student Organization at VT, we tend to focus on university specific issues, but you do not have to be connected to Virginia Tech to get involved. To provide a safe space for Virgiia Tech students (undergrad and graduate), faculty, and alumni under the trans umbrella to meet each other, form community, and discuss issues relevant to their identities and to their lives in general. In creating such a safe space, this organization would seek to be inclusive of people of all transgender, non-binary, gender-questioning, and similar gender identities. It will be imperative to recognize the impact of intersectionality of gender identity with factors such as race and cultural/ethnic background, sexual orientation, birth assignment, disability, and so on. To be a place where trans individuals can share resources with each other in a conversational manner. The group would not intend to provide any official recommendations to such facilities/resources. Its goals are NOT to be solely a support group and it will NOT provide professional counseling. This is important since trans people often have unique needs not always able to be best addressed in peer only groups
