We are the Illinois chapter of the Women's March. We harness the power of our movement to fight for the collective liberation of all women and femmes! Women's March - Illinois Chapter (part of the Women's March Network) The Women’s March on Washington, that took place on January 21st, 2017, in Washington D.C., began in response to the divisive rhetoric of the past election cycle. We achieved historic success and over 5 million people worldwide marched in solidarity to send a resounding message worldwide: 'women's rights are human rights, and human rights are women's rights.' We realize that our rights are severely threatened and hard-earned progress in civil rights for women, people of color, immigrants, religious minorities, the disabled, the LGBTQIA community, and many other vulnerable groups, is in danger of being erased. We stand in solidarity with our partners, children, and allies for the protection and in defense of our rights, our safety, and our individual voices. As the Illinois organizers for the March, we continue in our state’s proud tradition of progressive activism, and invite all women and our allies to join this national effort and turn fear into direct, positive action by demanding protection of civil rights for all Americans. It is our vision that the Women’s March on Washington will be a springboard for action and will galvanize the hundreds of thousands of marchers to return to their local communities and participate in a multitude of local efforts directed at positive social change. We recognize that our diverse and vibrant communities are the strength of our nation. With that in mind, the Illinois organizers actively seek to make our community representative of this diversity and a platform to champion the voices of those most marginalized among us. It is our goal to coordinate and facilitate the participation of as many Illinois marchers in the March as we can. We strive to build a diverse network of community partners and allies, statewide and locally, with the goal of connecting our community members, to resources, individuals, and organizations, that can help forge lasting alliances of solidarity and partnership. We celebrate our grassroots origins. We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all.
