NOW chapters focus on six priority issues including reproductive rights, ending sex discrimination/constitutional equality, promoting diversity and ending racism, economic justice, stopping violence against women, and LGBTQIA rights. Our chapter welcomes new members to help fight for women's rights on the local and national level. We support the political and economic empowerment of women of color and their families in California through education, networking programs & mentoring. OUR STORY, HOW WE GOT STARTED- Inspired by my own experiences as a woman with deep faith in God, social work professional, business entrepreneur and working mother, Cheryl A. Branch, organized her girlfriends, mentors and colleagues and launched the Califia NOW Chapter of Greater Los Angeles in May 2014. The Califia NOW Chapter supports the political and economic empowerment of women of color and their families in California through access to education, networking programs and mentoring support. In partnership with California NOW Chapter, the Califia NOW Chapter of Greater Los Angeles helps to provide direct action and service projects for women in Los Angeles. Women of all races bring home less income and own fewer assets, on average, than men of the same race, but for single black women the disparities are so overwhelmingly great that even in their prime working years their median wealth amounts to only $5.
