We're in climate emergency. We must ACT. Speak climate reality to policy makers and demonstrate publicly to transition to a sustainable future. Are you in? The fossil fuel industries, industrial agriculture, and the largest Wall Street banks have effectively captured our legislators to safeguard their interests in a global, commodity based, consumer economy. We now have legislation and policies that subsidize fossil fuels, protect industrial agriculture, bailout speculative financial investments, and even require military interventions to maintain these systems. This system has become 'business as usual' and is so entrenched that many believe There Is No Alternative (TINA) to the economic and financial systems put in place over the past 40 years. The result of these policies has been ever more extreme income inequality and the “hollowing out of the middle class” as our manufacturing base moved overseas and was replaced by low paying service and retail industries (Wal*Mart, etc.) This system represents the interests of the “1%” and not the majority of voters who want new policies that will speed up the transition to renewable energy, rebuild our local food systems, and invest in the infrastructure of our struggling cities and low income neighborhoods. The Climate Action Coalition sees the current situation as an opportunity to ACT and change these unsustainable systems! We know that there ARE alternatives – distributed renewable energy, local organic food systems, and new economic and monetary policies that invest in our healthcare, labor, and infrastructure needs. The time is NOW to ACT with our emails and letters and public demonstrations to demand new policies that will create a sustainable future. Our Climate Action Coalition brings together diverse organizations that give voice to the great majority of people who are ready to change 'business as usual.' Join us and add your voice to demand that our representatives address climate change head on. As President Obama has said: 'We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last one that can do something about it.' Are you in? You are in very good company.
