WHO IS NY02Dems? New York’s 2nd District Democrats (NY02Dems) is a constituent-based group dedicated to reenergizing the Democratic base, mobilizing district two residents, flipping our district, and ensuring that President Trump’s election is the spark that ignites the strongest, most unified social justice movement our country has ever seen. We will organize face-to-face lobbying, protests, rallies, phone calls, social media campaigns, voter registration, and other forms of community engagement. SIGN UP: Please join our membership list http://eepurl.com/cF6bFH POSTING POLICY & GROUP GUIDELINES: The rhetoric of this past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened too many Americans, and we must stand together to protect the dignity and rights of our communities. With that in mind, NY02Dems asks that each member be respectful and kind in our group. If you see something, say something (PM me). We would like to refrain from political arguments, and focus more on advocacy and activism. Political debates and discussions are welcome, but please keep it civil. We need to work together, now more than ever. SLACKTIVISM VS. ACTIVISM: We want to steer clear of becoming slacktivists – and therefore would like to limit the number of online petitions we share. We will share an online petition if it has a clear targeted ask, and we can follow it up with active community engagement. FAKE NEWS: As you know, fake/slanted news has become a major problem, for the right as well as the left. We welcome all members’ posts, but please note that we will be careful not to approve articles from questionable sources. Common liberal sites to avoid are: (Being Liberal, Bipartisan Report, IfYouOnlyKnewNews, The Other 98%, Occupy Democrats, etc.) If you’re not certain that an article is real, please take a minute to Google the info to find a reliable news source. Some reliable sources you can count on include: NY Times, WSJ, Washington Post, The Economist, BBC, The New Yorker, The AP, Reuters, Bloomberg News, Foreign Affairs, The Atlantic, Politico, NPR, CNN, Time, Financial Times, etc. Thank you. ACTION ALERTS: We will do our best to post a Daily concrete Action Alert, and we will make it as easy as possible for you to participate. If we post too many alerts in a short period of time, we run the risk of not being effective. If you would like to suggest an Action Alert, either PM me or please post in the group with the following details: Use “ACTION ALERT” as your first line and include a specific ask. If you’re suggesting making phone calls, please include talking points and the phone number to call. If you’re suggesting a Tweet, please include a draft that members can just copy & paste. Basically, please make it as simple and specific as possible. Thank you! If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know. Thank you very much for taking the time to read our guidelines. We look forward to working with you.
